Rise of Internet Based Networking

Thankfully, the internet is constantly evolving to find new and better solutions for our needs. That’s why we’re seeing a new kind of network proliferate – the interest based network.
Instead of networks that are based on moving offline connections online, people are adopting networks that are based on common interests with people they may or may not even know. We have seen people flock to Pinterest to find images of shared passions, to Quora to discuss common interests, and to Flipora to recommend and discover interesting content on their favorite topics.
Many people who share interests on these platforms have never met and don’t know anything about each other. Interest based networks unleash the true power of the web in bringing the world together and allowing for the organic formation of tribes.
It’s the only way many people could ever communicate with each other, removing barriers of geography, time zones, societal restraints, and cultural habits -- leaving them only with their common ideas and passions.
Let us analyze a few of these interest based networks to understand why they resonate with users.

The Bluemix UI (which runs on Cloud Foundry) is the front-end to Bluemix, IBM’s open cloud hosting platform. The original implementation as a single-page, monolithic Java web app brought with it many demons, such as poor performance, lack of scalability, inability to push small updates, and difficulty for other teams to contribute code. Over the last 2 years, the team has been on a mission to slay these demons by embracing cloud native principles and splitting the monolith into smaller Node.js microservices. The effort to migrate to a more modern and scalable architecture has paid large dividends, but has also left behind a few battle scars from wrestling with the added complexity cloud native can bring.
